Therefore, it is advised to drink plenty of hot water and fresh hot food. Digestive foods like cumin/ginger/coriander/anise/cardamom mixed with water/milk and boiled in alcohol are beneficial. These foods and drinks are also good for a sore throat. When the phlegm is strong and the throat is sore, ginger and cumin water are suitable for hot dishes.
Hot food with butter, milk-sugar, hot soup, kheer is good when the throat is red, dry and hot. Eating curd, drinking milk, eating fruits that increase phlegm like bananas, oranges etc. during evening meal can cause sore throat. Problems like headache, sore throat can also occur. In this case, skipping the evening meal for a while, fasting is beneficial. Throat problem increases after meals. Having a meal at night when the throat is sore worsens the problem. It is useful for those who eat hot food between 6 and 7 pm, then eat anything until bedtime.
Consuming cold fruit juice, cold water, cold food, ice cream, milk shake, bread, pastry etc. are common causes of sore throat. In these cases drinking hot water without food for a few days, water boiled with ginger and jaggery, water boiled with cumin and jaggery cures the disease. A warm compress is useful if the throat is sore-phlegmatic. Soaking ginger in milk/making a paste and rubbing it on the outside of the throat will provide relief. The above mentioned treatments can provide relief within few days. If it does not subside, the symptoms are serious and may not heal even after a week
